Fall Coffee Drinks in El Paso: Our Toasted Marshmallow Latte
If you are hunting for fall coffee drinks in El Paso, start with our October drink of the month. In short, it is a toasted marshmallow latte, and we build it on Puerto Rican coffee. Every October the big chains roll out the same orange cup. However, we would rather hand you something with roots. So this one starts with beans from Puerto Rico, with chocolate and caramel notes, and then it ends on a soft marshmallow finish. Below you will find what goes in it, what it costs, and how to get one today.
Fall coffee drinks in El Paso: the short answer
Fall coffee drinks in El Paso, the island way
Of course, fall in El Paso does not look like fall on a postcard, because the mornings cool off and the afternoons stay warm. So a fall drink here has to work both hot and iced.
Also, we did not want to copy the chains. Our coffee comes from Puerto Rico, and that is the whole point of the kiosk. Therefore, our fall drink leads with the island first and the season second. You can read more in our guide to what Puerto Rican coffee tastes like.
Fall coffee drinks in El Paso at a glance
The table below sums up the drink of the month, so you can see the whole build at once.
| Trait | What it means | Where it comes from | What you notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| The coffee | Puerto Rican beans with a smooth body. | Imported from Puerto Rico and roasted in El Paso | Chocolate and caramel notes, and then a clean finish. |
| Low acidity | The coffee is naturally low in acid. | Our standing flavor profile | No sharp bite, so the syrup does not have to cover one. |
| The syrup | Toasted Marshmallow, one of our 13 syrups. | Our menu, at 25 cents a serving | A soft, sweet finish. However, the coffee still leads. |
| Hot sizes | 10, 12 and 20 ounces. | Our menu | $3.50, $4.00 or $4.50, plus the syrup. |
| Iced sizes | 12, 16 and 20 ounces. | Our menu | $3.50, $4.50 or $5.50, plus the syrup. |
| The pairing | A pumpkin muffin from the pastry case. | Our breakfast menu | You get your pumpkin, and then your coffee stays coffee. |
What is in the drink: the roast, the milk, the toasted marshmallow syrup
The build is simple, so you can order it the same way every time.
- The roast. Espresso made from our Puerto Rican coffee. In short, espresso is a small, strong shot of coffee.
- The milk. Steamed milk for the hot version. Also, you can swap in oat milk for 50 cents.
- The syrup. Then one serving of Toasted Marshmallow syrup, for 25 cents.
- The extras. For example, you can add whipped cream for 50 cents or cold foam for 75 cents.
So that is a Puerto Rican coffee latte El Paso can call its own. We source the beans from El PuebloDel Café, and our post explains where our beans are sourced.
Why marshmallow works with chocolate-caramel notes and low acidity
First, think of a campfire, where you have chocolate, something toasted and something sweet. Our coffee already brings the chocolate and the caramel. So the syrup only has to bring the toast.
Also, low acidity helps. A sharp coffee fights with a sweet syrup. However, a smooth one carries it. Therefore, a toasted marshmallow latte on this roast tastes round, not sugary. The Specialty Coffee Association keeps the flavor terms that roasters use, and you can find them at the association site at sca.coffee.
Sizes and prices: 10, 12 and 20 ounce hot, plus the iced version
How much does it cost? A hot latte is $3.50, $4.00 or $4.50 by size, plus 25 cents for the toasted marshmallow syrup. Iced runs $3.50, $4.50 or $5.50 by size, plus the syrup.
- Hot. With the syrup, that comes to $3.75 for 10 ounces, then $4.25 for 12 and $4.75 for 20.
- Iced. With the syrup, that comes to $3.75 for 12 ounces, then $4.75 for 16 and $5.75 for 20.
So on a warm afternoon, make your fall latte at Solana an iced one. Our guide covers more iced Puerto Rican coffee drinks.
The pairing: our pumpkin muffin
We do not make a pumpkin spice latte. However, we do have a pumpkin muffin in the pastry case. So you can have your pumpkin on the side and keep the coffee in the cup. Our post has more on espresso paired with sweet treats.
